    MITGM March Member of the Month Felecia Leslie Felecia Leslie is our member of the month. She has also been in the MITGM family for a long time and she continues to support this family. Thank you Felicia for all you have do in the music world and for this family... FELECIA L. KNIGHT musical biography “Her Love For Music” Felecia was educated in the Nashville Public Schools and Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tennessee. Growing up in “ Music City ” she has a life-long love and passion for music of all genres and presentations. Coming from a musical family, Felecia had a natural ear for music at a very young age and would put on records and began to play the piano by ear to the melodies of her favorite songs and sing the background vocals. Around age 9 she began taking formal piano lessons and progressed to learning the organ and became a young church musician alongside her mother who also played for the church. Starting in elementary school she was always in the school plays singing or dancing. By High School age she played piano and organ for her church youth choir and was in her high school Chorus and “The Madrigal Singers” while learning the music of many cultures and being vocally and musically trained by her Music Teacher, Mr. Sawyers, who was a former Fisk Jubilee Singer. In college, she sang in the Tennessee State University Choir and Meister Singers under the training of Professor Charlotte Rhodes. As a Licensed and Ordained Clergy for over 25 years, she has served in many ministerial capacities. In her professional career, she has contributed over 30 years of service to a variety of corporate companies in the field of Finance and Credit. Currently, she is a Consultant and the CEO of Anointed Christian Talent Services (ACTS) Entertainment Management) which is a Talent Agency that services music, arts, and the entertainment industry and as a Non-profit Business Development Consultant. Felecia is a true Visionary, Mentor, and Public Speaker who vows to educate, motivate and provide resources as a change agent for the next generation of leaders. In every aspect of her life, she honors God and commits herself to submission of his will.     MITGM February Member of the Month Jeffrey LaValley A native of Milwaukee, WI, and born in 1953 to Elder Allison and Mother Artie LaValley, Jeffrey began his musical career on an acoustic piano purchased for his older sister at the age of five. Jeffrey studied journalism at Pennsylvania State University in Monaca, PA, and at Marquette University in Milwaukee. Jeffrey began his formal musical studies in 1986 and enrolled in a music studies program at Mott Community College in Flint, where he achieved the Dean’s List status for 2 years, carrying a 4.0 average. His greatest accomplishments, however, have been in the field of gospel music. As a writer, musician, director, and/or producer, Jeffrey has appeared on over 275 projects including the New Jerusalem Baptist Church Choir, Wilmington-Chester Mass Choir, Florida Mass Choir, Charles Fold & The Charles Fold Singers, Myrna Summers, Rev. Donald Vails, Rev. James Cleveland, The Wisconsin Community Choir, Vernard Johnson, The Christianaires, Douglas Miller, Keith Pringle and the Pentecostal Community Choir, The Jackson Southernaires, The Gospel Music Workshop of America Detroit Chapter, The Voices-Supreme, Betty Griffin-Keller, Charisma, Dello Thedford & The Gospel Symphonic Choir, The Full Gospel Baptist Church Mass Choir [which he produced, and was nominated for 1996 Stellar, Soul Train and Grammy Awards], Lou Rawls, and many others. For three years, he served as the musical director for the Tramaine Hawkins Road Band and formerly served as the concertmaster for the Gospel Music Workshop of America Mass Choir. Jeffrey coordinated the choral background vocals for the Palace of Auburn Hills concert performance of pop star George Michael and appeared with Aretha Franklin in concert in Flint and at the Joe Dumars Retirement Celebration at the Palace of Auburn Hills. He was also a featured artist in the “Gentlemen of Gospel Series” at the John F. Kennedy Center, Washington DC, and coordinated the music for the nuptials of filmmaker Michael Moore. In 1987, Jeffrey was commissioned to compose a song for Pope John IV during his Papal visit to Detroit, and in 1989, he was awarded the GMWA Excellence Award for Song of the Year--Contemporary, “No Greater Love”. He was also featured as one of the top producers of 1994 in the Gospel Music Industry Roundup, the 1996 edition of the Gospel Music Industry Roundup, and was featured in the 1997 and 1998 editions of the Gospel Music Industry Roundup, as one of the most sought-after producers in Gospel Music. In 2001, Jeffrey received the Vision Award from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Black Sacred Music Symposium for his achievements in Gospel Music. In 2001, Jeffrey released his first instrumental musical project, “…From My Heart”. On June 15, 2004, Jeffrey released his second musical project, entitled, “Round 2”. His composition, “Revelation 19:1”, was chosen as the entrant for the Papal Celebration at the Vatican in June 2006, and is featured in the movie, “Lockdown”. Jeffrey was also a featured musician in the Bill Gaither Series, “Gospel Pioneer Reunion”. In December 2008, Jeffrey was fêted as a legend in the Flint Gospel Community. For more than 40 years, Jeffrey has and currently serves as the Minister of Music at the New Jerusalem Full Gospel Baptist Church in Flint MI. He also served as the International Minister of Music for the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship, Bishop Paul S. Morton, Presiding Bishop for nine years. July 2004, Jeffrey was ordained as an Elder by Bishop Odis A. Floyd. He has received proclamations from several cities, including Dallas, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Little Rock, and was decreed an honorary citizen of the city of Louisville, KY in 2011. Listed in the 1989 edition of the Outstanding Young Men of America, and in Who’s Who of 1991, Jeffrey was also a participant in the 1994 World Choir Celebration in the Georgia Dome, Atlanta, GA, where he was an accompanist to the 5000-voice World Mass Choir and Peabo Bryson. February 2010, Jeffrey was honored by the Genesee District Library with the Black History Month Award of Excellence. September 2012, Jeffrey received the “Dr. Mattie Moss Clark Legend” Award, from the Dr. Dorinda Clark-Cole Singers and Musicians’ Conference. January 2013 was proclaimed “Elder A. Jeffrey LaValley Day” in the City of Flint by Mayor Dayne Walling and the Flint City Council. June 2013, Jeffrey was honored by the Hampton University Ministers’ Conference and Choral Directors and Musicians Guild by receiving the “Roland Carter Living Legend in Church Music” award. “Revelation 19:1”, has been included in the hymnal, “Lift Up Your Hearts.” published under the Faith Alive Christian Resources imprint and is a joint publication of the Christian Reformed Church in North America and the Reformed Church in America. September 2017, Jeffrey released his 3rd CD project, “Hymns”, which featured 17 of his favorite hymns. September 2020, Jeffrey was honored by the Gospel Music Choice Awards with the Lifetime Achievement Award. 2019, Jeffrey’s composition, Revelation 19:1, experienced an upsurge in popularity due to its inclusion on the setlist of Kanye West’s Sunday Services. It was also sampled and included in the song, “Selah”, recorded by Kanye West on his project, “Jesus Is King”, which was certified gold on June 16, 2020. On Christmas Day, 2019, the song was re-released in its entirety as a part of the Kanye West project “Jesus is Born” by the Sunday Service Performance Choir. The “Jesus is King” project was also nominated for a Billboard Top Christian Artist, and Top Gospel Artist Award. The “Jesus Is Born” project was nominated for the Top Gospel Album Award, and the song, “Selah” was nominated for in the Top Gospel Song category. March 2021, the “Jesus Is King” project won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album, making Jeffrey a Grammy-winning composer. June 7, 2021 (his 68th birthday), Jeffrey received the BMI (Broadcast Music Inc.) 2021 Trailblazers of Gospel Music Award—a highly prestigious award in the music industry-- in recognition of his contributions to the gospel genre. July 9, 2021, the Kanye West single, “Selah”, which contains a sample of Jeffrey’s composition, “Revelation 19:1”, was Certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), denoting sales of 500,000 copies.
